+ Where do you source your vintage furniture?

We travel to Denmark where we hand pick our pieces and then ship them home to Chicago in 20 and 40ft shipping containers. We have built strong relationships with multiple collectors and sellers in Copenhagen who we buy from.

+ Do you buy locally?

Yes! Please email us photos of the item you would like to sell along with a price. (Again please list your asking price we do not make offers.) We will let you know if it's something we might be interested in. hello@spacedout.studio]

+ How do you recommend caring for my furniture?

You can generally oil it every 6 -12 months using teak oil. It's real simple: Wipe it on with an old t-shirt material and wipe it off. A brand we like is Starbrite.

We also recommend Walrus Oil 'Furniture Finish.' This product is a little more robust and stays on longer than traditional teak oil. It's great for starting over with a new finish (We use it on all teak furniture after we sand / stain) as the finishing application. We think it gives a really nice even matte finish that showcases vintage teak well without having to add a poly finish. You can also use it in place of Teak Oil for a routine shine. We like it so much we now carry it in our shop!

As for cleaning you can just dust with a damp cloth, avoid using any harsh chemicals out of a spray can. Any natural cleaners should do the trick for built up residue.

Obviously use coasters or trivets for anything hot or cold to avoid leaving rings.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

+ Can you refinish my furniture?

Unfortunately we don’t take in refinishing projects. If you're in the neighborhood you could check out The Stripp Joynt on Elston. Or just check with your local refinishing company on Google/Yelp. Best of luck with the project!

+ Veneer?

Most MCM pieces were beautifully crafted using a wood veneer. (Please don't get veneer confused with laminate.) Generally any wide grain pattern like the tops and sides are going to be real hardwood veneer (teak, walnut, rosewood) with hardwood edges. The back panel is a usually plywood with a veneer finish. It was engineered to stand the test of time.

+ Why don't you have a phone number listed?

:) We don't have a shop phone (only our cell phones) and we prefer not to be on call 24-7. But we check email pretty often so please send us a message: [hello@spacedout.studio]

+ How do I make an appointment?

No more appointments required!

OPEN SHOP HOURS Mon-Tues: Closed Wed-Thurs-Fri: 11-6 Sat-Sun: 9-4

+ Hey, arent you sharkgravy?

Yes we were called SharkGravy for about 9 years but rebranded. Why? Because our name was SharkGravy.

+ Can I make a return?

We do not accept returns once an item has left the shop. We are not a big box store with a replacement item. Each vintage item was restored to the best of our ability and comes with it's own unique vintage charm. We ask that you please double check the dimensions and inspect the piece prior to purchase. Handmade items are made to order specifically for you and cannot be returned. All that said, please reach out to us if you have an issue and let's see what we can figure out.

+ Where are your new handmade pieces made?

We design the furniture ourselves in Chicago. The designs are finely handcrafted by Midwestern Amish woodworkers.

+ What is the turnaround time for the handmade furniture?

Currently it's an estimated 8 week turnaround time from when your order is placed to when it lands in our shop.
